The wellness market is booming. People intend to keep spending more on products that improve their health, fitness, nutrition, appearance, sleep, and mindfulness.
Each of these six categories is important for consumers across our survey countries. Better health consistently appears as the most important wellness dimension (and the one with the highest level of spending) across every market we researched.
At the same time, relative responses vary in other categories. For example, consumers in Japan prioritize appearance while those in Germany emphasize fitness; respondents in Brazil and the United States are most interested in mindfulness, and those in China and the United Kingdom in nutrition.
The majority of consumers planning to increase their spending was especially large in some categories, including memory/brain enhancers, anti-aging products, beauty supplements, noninvasive cosmetic procedures, nutrition (sports nutrition, juice cleanses, nutrition coaches, fortified foods), and meditation/mindfulness offerings.
People are interested in wellness for many reasons. However, the most important reason is that it can improve overall health. By taking steps to improve health, people can enjoy a better quality of life and potentially avoid serious health problems down the road. Additionally, wellness can make people look and feel better, which can boost self-esteem and confidence. Furthermore, wellness can help people manage stress and anxiety, which are common issues that can lead to serious problems if left unchecked. Finally, wellness can improve sleep quality, increase energy levels, and improve cognitive function. All of these benefits can improve the overall quality of life.
